YOU CAN DO IT!
We believe all Spanish Immersion students are capable of earning the Bilingual Seal and we encourage all our students to take the Higher Level, Language B, IB exam in Spanish.
LEGISLATION
June 2015—The Minnesota Bilingual and Multilingual Seals were legislated.
2009—The Minnesota World Language Proficiency Certificate was created as an official recognition by the state of Minnesota.
WHY THE SEALS ARE AWARDED
The Bilingual Seal is awarded for proficiency in another language in addition to English.
The Multilingual Seal is awarded for proficiency in two or more languages in addition to English.
RECOGNITION AND SEAL LEVELS
The level of each seal is defined according to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines. The Bilingual/Multilingual Seal levels and their qualifying scores are as follows:
MN World Language Proficiency Certificate—ACTFL Intermediate Low
Gold Seal—ACTFL Intermediate High score
Platinum Seal— ACTFL Advanced Low score
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY & ACTFL LEVELS
ACTFL Intermediate Low—proficiency considered to be a minimum level proficiency needed to function in familiar situations in the real world.
ACTFL Intermediate High—proficiency is a highly functional level, which allows you to communicate effectively in many informal and formal situations.
ACTFL Advanced Low—proficiency indicates the ability to handle a variety of communicative tasks in most informal and some formal situations, which are beyond the range of topics handled by intermediate speakers to include the capacity to use sufficient accuracy.
SEAL THROUGH IB
All students who successfully complete the IB Bilingual Diploma will be eligible for the Minnesota Bilingual Seal. To qualify through IB:
You must receive a score of 4 to 7 in the High Level Exam of IB DP (equivalent to ACTFL Intermediate High and ACTFL Advanced Low).
MULTILINGUAL ASSESSMENT
In addition, Spanish Immersion students at RHS who choose to take a 3rd language (French or Arabic) may also take an assessment in that language to qualify for the State of Minnesota’s Multilingual Seal.
COLLEGE CREDITS
Students can get anywhere from 2 to 4 semesters of college credits in Spanish language for earning this honor if they attend a MnSCU system school (Minnesota State Colleges and Universities). The number of credits will depend on their exam scores. Talk to your college counselor to ensure the credits are accepted.

LEGISLACIÓN
Junio de 2015—Los Sellos de Alfabetización Bilingüe y Multilingüe fueron legislados.
2009—Se creó el Certificado de Competencia de Idiomas del Mundo de Minnesota como reconocimiento oficial por el estado de Minnesota.
POR QUÉ SE OTORGAN LOS SELLOS
El Sello Bilingüe se otorga por la competencia lingüística que se tenga en otro idioma además del inglés.
El Sello Multilingüe se otorga por la competencia lingüística que se tenga en dos o más idioma además del inglés.
RECONOCIMIENTO Y NIVELES DE SELLOS
Cada nivel de sello está definido de acuerdo a las Guías de Capacidad Lingüística del Consejo Americano para la Enseñanza de Idiomas Extranjeros (ACTFL, por sus siglas en inglés). Los niveles de Sellos Bbilingües/Multilingües y los niveles ACTFL de habilidad funcional requeridos son:
Certificado de Competencia de Idiomas del Mundo de MN—ACTFL Intermedio Bajo
Sello de Oro—ACTFL Intermedio Alto.
Sello de Platino—ACTFL Avanzado Bajo
LA CAPACIDAD LINGÜÍSTICA Y LOS NIVELES ACTFL
ACTFL Intermedio Bajo—capacidad considerada a un nivel mínimo de competencia necesaria para desenvolverse en situaciones familiares alrededor del mundo.
ACTFL Intermedio Alto—capacidad considerada a un alto nivel de habilidad funcional que le permita comunicarse efectivamente en muchas situaciones formales e informales.
ACTFL Avanzado Bajo—capacidad que indica la habilidad de manejar una variedad de tareas comunicativas en la mayoría de situaciones informales y algunas situaciones formales que van más allá del rango de temas que manejan los hablantes de nivel intermedio así como la capacidad de usar suficiente precisión lingüística.
SELLO A TRAVÉS DE IB (BACHILLERATO INTERNACIONAL)
Todos los estudiantes que completen con éxito el Diploma Bilingüe (DP) IB califican para el Sello Bilingüe. para calificar a través de IB:
Deberá recibir una nota de 4 a 7 en el examen de Nivel Superior del DP IB. Esta nota equivale al nivel ACTFL Intermedio Alto y ACTFL Avanzado Bajo).
EVALUACIÓN MULTILINGÜE
Los estudiantes de inmersión que opten por cursar un tercer idioma (francés o árabe) también podrán tomar la evaluación para dicho idioma y calificar para el Sello Multilingüe de Minnesota.
CRÉDITOS PARA LA UNIVERSIDAD
Los estudiantes pueden recibir de 2 a 4 semestres de equivalencia en clases de español por recibir este honor si asisten a una universidad del sistema MnSCU (Universidades del Estado de Minnesota). La cantidad de crédito recibido dependerá de la nota recibida en el examen. Hable con su consejero universitario para asegurarse de que los créditos serán aceptados.
