IB Bilingual Diploma | Diploma  Bilingüe IB

INTRODUCTION

Highly motivated students will want to take advantage of the opportunity to earn the IB Bilingual Diploma at RHS. Students work to complete a rigorous workload during their 11th and 12th grade years of study.

 

DEFINITIONS

Language A: Refers to the first or primary language

Language B: Refers to Language Acquisition classes (Spanish, Arabic, or French)


REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IB DIPLOMA

  1. Theory of knowledge (TOK)—This is a class where students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.

  2. The extended essay (EE)—This is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. This can be completed in Spanish.

  3. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)—Students complete activities including a service project.

  4. Scores of 3 or higher on standard or higher-level exams and adding up to a total of 24 points minimum with the extended essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) in the following areas:

    • Group 1: Language & Literature, Language A (English Language Arts)

    • Group 2: Language Acquisition, Language B (Arabic, French, or Spanish)

    • Group 3: Individuals & Societies (History and Psychology)

    • Group 4: Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, or Physics)

    • Group 5: Mathematics (Math SL, Math Studies)

    • Group 6: The Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Music)

 

IB BILINGUAL DIPLOMA: Additional requirements at RHS

Completion of one of the subjects from group 3 or group 4 in a language that is not the same as the candidate’s nominated group 1 language.

For example:

  • Language A exam in English,

  • Language B exam in Spanish, and

  • Either an exam in Individuals and Societies or Sciences in Spanish 

***The student must earn a score of 3 or higher on each exam. Students can choose if they will take the higher-level or standard-level exams.

 

NOTE

Regardless of whether or not your student chooses to meet the requirements for the IB Bilingual Diploma, we encourage her/him to take the IB Spanish Language and Literature (Language A) exam at the Standard or Higher Level in order to qualify for the Bilingual Seal and/or to potentially receive college credit (depending on the score they receive and the institution of higher learning they choose to attend).

Los estudiantes altamente motivados deberán tomar ventaja de la oportunidad de obtener el Diploma Bilingüe IB en RHS. Los estudiantes se esfuerzan en completar una carga académica rigurosa durante los dos últimos años de preparatoria.

 

DEFINICIONES

Lengua A: se refiere a la primera o a la lengua primordial.

Lengua B: se refiere a las clases de adquisición de idiomas, tales como español, árabe o francés en RHS.

 

REQUISITOS PARA EL DIPLOMA IB

  1. Teoría del Conocimiento (TdC)—una clase en la que los estudiantes reflexionan sobre la naturaleza del conocimiento  y sobre cómo conocemos lo que afirmamos saber.

  2. Monografía (M)—esta es una investigación independiente, autodirigida, que culmina con un ensayo de 4,000 palabras. Puede ser completada en español.

  3. Creatividad, Actividad, Servicio (CAS)—los estudiantes completan actividades incluyendo un proyecto de servicio. 

  4. Calificación de 3 o más en los exámenes  estándares o de alto nivel cuya suma llegue hasta un mínimo de 24 puntos en la Monografía (M) y en Teoría del Conocimiento (TdC) en las siguientes áreas:

  • Grupo 1: Lenguaje y Literatura, Idioma A (Artes del Lenguaje en Inglés)

  • Grupo 2: Adquisición del Lenguage, Idioma B (Árabe, Francés, o Español)

  • Grupo 3: Individuos y Sociedades (Historia y Psicología)

  • Grupo 4: Ciencias (Química, Biología, o Física)

  • Grupo 5: Matemáticas (Matemáticas NE, Estudios de Matemáticas)

  • Grupo 6: Artes (Artes Visuales, Danza, Música)

 

DIPLOMA BILINGÜE IB: requisitos adicionales en RHS

Completar una de las tres materias del grupo 3 o grupo 4 en un idioma que no sea el mismo que la nominada del grupo 1 para el candidato.

 

Por ejemplo:

  • Examen Idioma A en inglés,

  • Examen Idioma B en español y

  • Ya sea el examen en Individuos y Sociedad  o Ciencias  en español

***El estudiante debe obtener una nota de 3 o más en cada examen. Los estudiantes pueden escoger si tomarán los exámenes de alto nivel o de nivel estándar.

 

NOTA

Independientemente de que el estudiante elija cumplir con los requisitos del Diploma Bilingüe IB  o no, les animamos a que tomen el examen de Español IB Lengua y Literatura  (Idioma A) en el Nivel Medio o Superior para poder calificar para el Sello Bilingüe y/o para posiblemente recibir créditos universitarios (dependiendo de la nota que reciban y de la institución superior a la que elijan asistir.
